Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
By Shane Rivers
A Lord en route to the Holy Land of Jerusleum stops too make ammends to his son and invite him on the journey. The son eventually finds himself charged with the protection of the embattled city.
A grand-scaled epic with sweeping images and effects. Ridley Scott certainly doean’t disappoint with his treatment of the visual aspects in this film. We are left a bit disapointed with story, however.
Our story of factions and kingdoms and god gets a bit knotted, but the real problem is with the pacing. The highs and lows don’t really come together.
Bloom’s first leading role isn’t all bad and he does fair pretty well, yet he seems overmatched for the circumstance and ends up playing for a tie.
Kingdom of Heaven’s statements on the then-state of of Jersuleum certainly hold some truth today and this commentary helps the theme and the film as a whole.
A somewhat disappointing but still very watchable film.
Directed by Ridley Scott.
