New Movie Reviews

New movie reviews is the subject of this post, and it should enable you to find some of the best new movie reviews on the Internet. These movie review sites specialize in new release movies. I’ve also included a brief description of each site.

  • Roger Ebert – The king of new movie reviews, Ebert is going strong despite recent health problems. Besides reviews of all the latest films to hit theaters, he also features an update on film festivals, a well-written journal on cinema, one-minute movie reviews, and a movie glossary. One of my favorites is the Answer Man section, where Ebert answers reader email. You’ll be astonished at how in-depth these responses can be. Another favorite is the Your Movie Sucks Files, where Ebert compiles a list of all the films to receive zero through one-and-a-half stars (watch out, Rob Schneider).
  • Blockbuster Online – Blockbuster offers access to 95,000+ movies. These movies can be downloaded, purchased, or sent for viewing in the privacy of your own home. Each film is accompanied by a number of reviews written by Blockbuster members. Take The Hangover, for example. When I looked at the site, 154 members had contributed reviews on this blockbuster summer comedy, with the average rating being four stars out of five. Once you’ve read a review, you can also vote on whether or not it was helpful. If you become a member, you can write and post your own movie reviews.
  • Metromix Chicago – If you’re looking to combine new movie reviews and quick movie reviews, you may want to check out this site. All the latest films are analyzed and graded on a scale of one to five stars. Each review begins with a brief synopsis of the plot, and then it’s divided into “The buzz,” “Did you know?”, and “The verdict.” Being a fan of movie trivia, I enjoy the “Did you know?” section and its interesting tidbits of knowledge.
  • Rotten Tomatoes – The biggest name in new movie reviews, Rotten Tomatoes compiles comments from film critics all over the world to establish an overall freshness rating. Each film is thus deemed “fresh” or “rotten.” The top critics have their own section, allowing you to go straight to the big guns instead of wading through reviews by people you’ve never heard of. The site has a ton of additional content.
  • The Hollywood Reporter – Like the sites listed above, The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at all films currently making their rounds in theaters. Also included are sections on movie news, special reports, box office performance, weekly columns, and a chart that allows you to track film and TV projects.
