DVD movie reviews are perfect for those who don’t have the time or money to see films when they first come out. Instead, you can enjoy them in the comfort of your own home, secure in the fact that these review sites are pointing you towards quality cinema and steering you away from crap cinema.

DVD Talk – Not only are regular DVDs reviewed, but the site also takes a critical look at both Blu-ray and HD DVD. They have a database of Easter Eggs, plus visitors can browse through a large number of collector series DVDs. In addition to the standard DVD movie reviews, they offer columns that range from anime to horror and art house cinema.

Filmcritic – Over 8,500 movie reviews reside on this site, so you should have plenty of reading material. New DVD releases are reviewed, but first-run films are also given the critical treatment. If you sign up for their mailing list, they’ll send the latest film reviews right to your inbox. You can also read movie news, features, and blog. The site is owned by American Movie Classics, and it’s been around since 1995.

Apollo Movie Guide – Promising to offer “Intelligent Reviews Online,” the Apollo Movie Guide provides critical analysis of DVD and Blu-ray releases. They’ve built up a large database of reviews, and a handy search feature lets you find what you want without having to take forever. Films are scored from one to one-hundred, with 1-10 indicating “the worst ever made,” and 91-100 denoting the “best of the best.”

Digitally Obsessed – Around since 1999, this DVD movie review site has over 10,000 titles to read about. Their movie news section is regularly updated, and a number of monthly contests could net you free DVDs or Blu-ray discs. You can also follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

DVD Verdict – This site features an interesting premise–all the reviewers serve as “judges.” They then proceed to render their verdicts on the various DVD and Blu-ray releases. Podcasts, forums, new movie reviews, TV episode reviews, video game reviews–this site has a little something for everybody. You can also view of list of every single DVD coming out in the next few weeks. And believe me, there are way more than you might imagine. This site gets my highest recommendation for being so comprehensive.
