B Movie Reviews
If you’re looking for B movie reviews, then you must be a fan of one of the more interesting types of motion picture. The history of the B movie can be traced all the way back to the 1920s, and they’re still going strong in the modern age.
So what is a B movie? In the early days of cinema, it was a low-budget film intended to be shown as the first part of a double feature. In modern terms, most people think of B movies are those filled with lots of nudity, violence, or other exploitative themes. The words “schlock” and “cheesy” are often thrown around. In fact, many assume that the “B” is short for “bad movie.” Here are a few examples of some well-known B movies:
- I Spit on Your Grave
- The Abominable Dr. Phibes
- Friday the 13th
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
- Pink Flamingos
If you’re a fan of this sort of film, it would help to know where to find quality B movie reviews. Luckily for you, that’s exactly what we’re covering below.
- Bad Movies – This site uses the “slime drop” ratings system, a unique way to gauge (a) how bad a movie is, and (b) how much fun it is to watch. Four “slime drops” is the best possible review, indicating that a film is one of the best of the bad. Reader reviews and capsule reviews are included, but the site’s strength is its diverse B movie reviews, ranging from films like The Angry Red Planet to Raiders of Wu Tang.
- Lost Highway – The focus of this site is on B-movies from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, though more modern films are also included. The biggest qualification for inclusion is that a film include at least one of the three Bs…breasts, blood, or beasts. In addition to their A to Z list of cult film reviews, the site also includes a hilarious list of survival tips in case you ever find yourself trapped inside a B movie.
- B-Movie Central – Most films are rated from one to five bees, with five bees being the best possible score. The “bat” is the rating reserved for the worst of the worst, and a “snoozer” is one that’s just plain boring. With articles, a blog, and a forum, this site has everything you’d ever need in a B movie review site. At the time of this writing, almost 100 reviews were included, ranging from Freaks to The Crawling Eye.
- The B-Movie Film Vault – Five radiation symbols denotes a high quality b-movie, while zero radiation symbols warns you to stay far, far away. The site is still growing, but it already includes reviews for films such as Arena, The Beast of Hollow Mountain, and My Bloody Valentine.
- Stomp Tokyo – What a great name for a site that specializes in Godzilla films and other B movie goodness! They also provide a cult movie podcast, a frequently updated blog, and a movie forum. Well-designed, with plenty of sister sites such as Tim Thomerson: King of B-Movies and Diary of a Tuber.
